The eight most important values for Take It Slow®

If a brand has this value it means they only make vegan garments. This means that their garments do not contain any animal materials, such as wool, silk or leather. There are no animals needed to create the garment. While finding animal-free garments is not that difficult these days, some slow fashion brands go even further by committing to a 100% vegan collection. These brands are acknowledged by the PETA-Approved vegan trademark.

Brands with a 100% vegan collection: Denise Roobol, Embassy of Bricks and Logs and Dedicated.

A brand gets this value when they use organic fabrics. Organic fabrics are derived from organic farming. No chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are used with organic farming, as opposed to regular farming when these are often used.

Brands that choose organic fabrics are: Organic Basics, Armedangels, Mud Jeans, Thinking Mu, Veja, Dedicated and LangerChen.

Ethically made

A brand gets this value when the brand produces under fair conditions. This means that all workers are paid fairly, they work in good conditions and their safety is monitored. Something that unfortunately is not a given in the clothing industry.

At Take It Slow, we find the makers of our clothing extremely important and therefore you will only find brands in our webstore that meet this value and can prove it to us.

Made in Europe

A brand gets this value when they mostly produce in Europe. By producing close to home, less transport is needed, which means there is less pollution such as CO2 emissions. Before a brand gets this value, we look into their supply chain. The four steps we look at are:

  1. Where do the raw materials come from?
  2. Where are the yars spun?
  3. Where are the yarns processed into a knit or fabric?
  4. Where is the final garment made?

A brand gets this value when at least two of the four steps from their supply chain take place in Europe. Thus, a brand may partner with sewing factories in Turkey, but the organic cotton fabric may be woven in India.

Brands that (mostly) make their garments in Europe are: Thinking Mu, Armedangels, Swedish Stockings, Jan ’n June, Mud Jeans and Organic Basics.

Natural fibers

A brand gets this value when they (mostly) use natural fibers for their fabrics. Natural fibers come, amongst others, from plants or wool. Natural fibers that can be found at Take It Slow are organic cotton, linen, wool and hemp.

Brands that use natural fibers are: Armedangels, Alpaca Loca, Bufandy, Organic Basics, Jan ’n June, Mud Jeans, LangerChen, Veja, Thinking Mu and Dedicated.

Innovative materials

A brand gets this value when they use innovative materials. By innovative materials, we mean materials that are made in innovative and new ways. Innovative materials that can be found at Take It Slow are EcoVero™, Tencel™ and vegan leather. Find ou more about these materials in our sustainable materialsguide.

Brands that use innovative materials are: Armedangels, Organic Basics, Jan ’n June, Thinking Mu, Denise Roobol and Dedicated.

Recycled materials

This brand (mostly) uses recycled materials. Think of clothing made of recycled polysester, wool or cotton.

Brands that use recycled fabrics: Armedangels, Embassy of Bricks and Logs, Girlfriend Collective, Mud Jeans, Organic Basics, Jan ’n June, Swedish Stockings, Veja, Thinking Mu, Maium and Haan.

Dutch brand

A brand gets this value when they are a Dutch brand. At Take It Slow, we think it is important to support sustainable Dutch brands and therefore you will find a nice selection of Dutch brands in our webstore.

Therefore we proudly present: Alpaca Loca, Bufandy, Mud Jeans, Maium, Wildthings, Flawed and Denise Roobol.
